Thankfully, these can be disabled in the career mode which is what I did.Īfter the unhelpful “tutorial” I went to create my player and I was incredibly disappointed with the options available. The “skill cards” give you temporary boosts to stats or shot percentages and can be purchased with real money. I was clear what this “tutorial” was really for… to introduce Tennis World Tour 2’s micro-transactions.

I thought I would try Tennis World Tour 2 as a new “Complete Edition” was recently released on PS5 and my experience was unfortunately on the negative side…Īs I started the game there’s a short tutorial which frankly wasn’t too helpful and introduces the “skill card” system.

As someone who used to really love Top Spin and have been craving a tennis game.

Both have 2 games in their series and both have been met with mixed reviews to say the least. AO Tennis (centred on the Australian Open license) and Tennis World Tour. In recent years, there have been 2 series to come to light to try and revive the genre. I think in part due to digital licensing/rights ( see my article discussing that issue) and maybe in part due to slowing demand for sports games amongst other factors.

Since the death of the Top Spin series in 2011, there hasn’t been any prominent tennis games to really grab the genre. In this series I will be sharing my experience during my first hour of gameplay with a game, so that you can get a feel of what it’s like, and true “first thoughts” as I have only played the game for an hour.
